F.I.N.E.S.S.E. Foundation Football Camp

F.I.N.E.S.S.E. Foundation Football Camp
As professional athletes, we are all approached with worthy causes to support and ways to give back to the youth in our respective communities. What makes one better than the other? Why choose this one instead of that one? The answer: Support the one that you relate to the most and will make a difference in someone’s life.

I have found a way to do just that. It is the F.I.N.E.S.S.E. Foundation Football Camp at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. This is a full contact, (yes, I said “full contact”) football camp for youth ages 7 - 14. It will be held from Sunday, June 19th (Father’s Day) through Thursday, June 23rd, 2011. The camp affords young men the opportunity to live, eat, and practice on a college campus while learning the core principles of football and of life. We all remember the days when we first started playing football and how great it made us feel. Remember the first time you thought to yourself “I want to play in the NFL when I grow up.” How old were you? Probably about the same age as the kids that will be attending this camp.

This year’s camp will feature such NFL veterans as Devin Bush, Michael Rumph, Autry Denson, Michael Timpson, and Jeff Dellenbach, to name a few. F.I.N.E.S.S.E. stands for Families Intent on Nurturing and Encouraging Scholastic and Sports Excellence. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Last year, I sponsored five (5) kids from Belle Glade to attend the camp. Athlete to Athlete and knowing how competitive we athletes are; I would like to challenge you to do the same. Sponsor a group (at least 5) of kids from your hometown, the little league program in which you played as a youngster, or a little league program in which your kids play now (or all three!). It doesn’t matter where you call home. Fort Lauderdale? Pompano Beach? Delray? Miami? Dallas? Atlanta? Los Angeles? Chicago? I would love the opportunity to see a little friendly competition not only between us Pros, but also the group of kids we sponsor. We look forward to seeing you and your kids on the field at the F.I.N.E.S.S.E. Foundation Full Contact Football Camp at Florida Atlantic University in June.
